If you are a fan of anything made out of metal, this year's furniture fashion trends are going to make you very excited. One of the biggest fashion trends for 2010 when it comes to home furnishings is metal. Anything in metal is in. So perhaps it's time to take a look around your living room and figure out where you can add a little more metal. One of the easiest ways to do this is by replacing those old end tables in the living room with something that's a little more stylish and trendy.
There are a couple of options when you decide to choose an end table made out of metal. First, do you want it completely made out of metal? You can either get a table that's made with metal as its base in many different types of tabletop or you may want to select a table that's made up some other material that has metal as a number of its accenting pieces. Let's look at some of the pros and cons of each of these.

All Metal
If you decide on an all metal end table there are a couple things to consider. First if you're looking at iron or some other heavy metal, this is going to be quite a hefty table. Secondly, if you have children in the home, all metal tables can have some sharp points to elements and you may want to think twice about having these in an area where a child might run into them.
However, if contemporary or modern décor has been going in your home, you may want to select an all metal table that's made into a geometric shape or even looks like it could be a piece of modern art that you're also turning into a functional piece of furniture.
Metal Base
Next option you have is to choose a piece of furniture that has a base made of metal and has a different type of table top. Most commonly you are going to see a glass table top teamed up with a metal base. This can have some benefits. First, this will definitely lighten the weight of the table, as glass doesn't usually weigh as much as metal. Additionally, a glass table top tends to accentuate any of the lighting in the room and really draws attention to it.
On the other hand, glass is fragile. Therefore if you have small children or people who are very rough that will be around a side table, you may want to go with something a little sturdier.
Metal Accents
If full metal pieces of furniture just aren't you, then maybe you just want to be in style with furniture that has enough metal accents to make them trendy. From inlays made out of metal to decorative pieces of metal that are attached to a table, there are a number of ways you can go to still bring pieces of metal into your living room and tables without having to have pieces that are completely made of this material.
